We are told that the two greatest Commandments are "Love God & Love man" Mt. 22:36-40;Deut. 6:4-6
When Jesus was asked, Who is my neighbor? Jesus said, Anyone in need is your neighbor.
Now it is easy to love the lovable or our dearest family and friends but God is calling us to do more than that. He says if you show favoritism, you sin, Jms. 2:9.
Love is one of the fruits of the Spirit Gal. 5:22
I Cor. 13 tells us what love is.
"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends." vss. 4-8
Jesus showed us what real love is when He died on the cross for us.
"God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Rom. 5:8
God wants husbands to show this kind of love to their wives.
"Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God Anyone who loves is born of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God - for God is love." I Jn. 4:7 NLT
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have?" Matt. 5:43-48
"And now I want to urge you... that we should love one another. This is not a new commandment, but one we had from the beginning." II Jn. 5
Love means never doing anything that would hurt another person or cause them to lose their salvation.
Love means not talking about another person behind their back.
Love means not thinking you are better than others even when you might be.
Love means not judging each other.
Love means not lusting after another person.
Love means helping someone when they're down; feeling their pain.
Love means not leaving someone out even if they don't interest you.
Love means not being phony with each other.
I guess I could go on all day.
Love means loving someone who might not love you back.
It's easy to look at someone else and say, Well, they need to love more but I think that what God wants us to do is look at ourselves and say, How can I love more?
The things that God asks us to do are not easy; in fact they are nearly impossible for us to do in our own strength! We need to ask God to help us to love like He loved us. It won't come overnight but will take a lifetime to learn God's kind of love for each other.
Someday on the New Earth there will be such a love we have never experienced before. We can't even imagine how wonderful it will be to experience that kind of love. It will be a pure love, a love that endures; a love that is sweet and beautiful and will fill our hearts with gratitude. Maybe we can have a little of that love now.
Lord, Thank you for the great love that You gave to us in Jesus. Help us to love others the way You loved us!
Jesus please love others through me!
